Are you surprised that the
personal computer era is coming to an end? Let`s think over this phenomenon.
With the advent of portable smart devices which enables high productivity
anywhere at any time, personal computers are considered to be less convenient. Mobile
devices are used to play games, chat, make international calls, read books and surf the Internet.
According to the latest
researches the PC sales are dropping while sales of mobile devices including
tablets and smart phones are significantly growing. There are multiple reasons
behind this growth – mobile, generational and consumer driven – but one factor
that is promoting this shift is the increasing popularity of cloud technology,
especially personal cloud. It allows users to store information on a server and
grant access to it no matter which device is used and where the user is
located.
People have realized very
soon that the devices used for personal purposes can be beneficial at work too
reshaping business communication. This shift in technology and communication
preferences is forcing companies to reshape their business model switching to
phenomenon called BYOD (bring your own device).
The Era of Personal Cloud
When workers bring their devices to the office
they expect to have possibilities to access their work data and applications,
synced in any location and across any mobile device. This could be carried out
through the personal cloud. But it means the data will be locking behind a
corporate firewall which by all means will cause more serious headaches that it
will solve.
The companies need to define
how to provide balance workers demand for the flexibility and swiftness they
want with security issues. This is consumer-oriented revolution, but it is
encouraged by desire and need for enhanced mobility in the company environment
and access to multimedia content from any devices. Companies must create
communications services and deploy network infrastructure separately if they
want to back the way workers interact with each other and with company`s
customers.
